Worship: A Shared Experience
|
"You already know what I am going to say."
Early on in my formation, I was invited to reflect on my "preaching bumper sticker." What belief was my preaching grounded in? That we are all reflections of the divine, born with an innate wisdom and knowledge of what is good & holy, and the potential to create it in love. That we all carry within us the ability to return to that knowledge, even in moments when our actions have caused us to forget or abandon it. That whatever it is I end up saying, comes from that same innate and sacred place found within all of us. That you already know what I am going to say. |
Beyond the ever-popular sermon, I believe that worship is a deeply immersive, embodied, and transformative act. Whether done in a quiet space of solitude or in a raucous revival, worship is about turning and (re)turning our whole being to that which is most important to our lives. Whether that is community, God, Love, justice, or something else you hold dear, what we worship - what we turn to - provides the foundation for all that we do and are in our lives.
HOW we worship can take on many forms, and I am always excited to engage in "holy experiments." Whether that is a "Flour Communion" that started with a typo, a vespers service featuring only Indigo Girls songs, a renaming ceremony for a trans beloved ending with "Jingle Bells," or a bubble-blowing prayer...there's no limit to what Love can look like!

Unitarian Universalists love words - and that includes me! Below is a small sample of some of my favorite ones I have shared in different worship contexts. I am always happy to bring my love of words to your community - just drop me a line!
